Looking at which restaurants and food outlets have the lowest scores in Newcastle and beyond 🥴
Last updated 11/8/2022
These ratings are publicly available for anyone to see – check before you try somewhere that might look sketchy. It’s pretty clear-cut, but basically, ratings are based on…
“how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
as well as
“the condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities”
and
“how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe”
Scores range from 0 – “urgent improvement necessary” up the scale to 5 – “very good”. Very similar to the old Scores on the Doors – but it seems inspectors have been more persistent in a short space of time, and a lot more places have already been rated, and they’re updated frequently too.
Not too many surprises, many of the places contain the words “pizza” and “cottage”, but a few names we’re sad to see on there – buck up your ideas guys. Thought hard about posting these, but really, if you’re paying for food – the least you can expect is for the cooking conditions to be clean. I know from various people that it is difficult and finicky to achieve 5-star rating, but you have to wonder how bad you must be to be rated zero, 1, or in cases, 2?
So, for your reading (dis)pleasure – here are the low scorers, or click below to make your own search. Perhaps look at the five-stars for some comfort?

Note to restaurant owners – if you’ve stumbled on this and you have been rated again – please get in touch and I can change this immediately.
What do you think? Would a low rating dissuade you from eating somewhere?
